Understanding your device’s eSIM compatibility
eSIM technology is now widespread on modern smartphones, especially on recent models from major manufacturers like Apple, Samsung, and Google. It allows for instant activation of a mobile plan without a physical SIM card, which is ideal for travel and offers flexible connectivity.
However, eSIM compatibility is not automatic. It depends on several factors, including the device model, its region of manufacture, and sometimes restrictions imposed by the original operator.

The 4 key points to remember before your purchase:
- Manufacturing region: Not all versions of the same phone model support eSIM (depending on the country of purchase).
- Imported smartphones: Devices imported from certain countries may have the eSIM functionality disabled by default.
- The refurbished market: Refurbished phones may come from regions of the world where eSIM was not integrated.
- Carrier-locked devices: Devices locked by a carrier restrict the use of third-party eSIM profiles. Your mobile phone must be unlocked (unlocked for all carriers).
eSIM compatibility on iPhone (Apple)
Apple was one of the first manufacturers to widely adopt eSIM technology, starting with the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR released in 2018.
Which iPhones are eSIM compatible?
All iPhone models released since 2018 support eSIM. This includes:
- The iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and newer models.
- The iPhone SE models (2020 and 2022) .
⚠️ Important notes for Apple devices:
- Chinese models: iPhones intended for the mainland Chinese market do not support eSIM (they have a physical dual SIM tray).
- Hong Kong & Macau: Some models purchased in these regions are also incompatible.
- Refurbished (Back Market, etc.): An iPhone purchased refurbished in Europe may come from an incompatible geographical area without this being visible to the naked eye.
👉 How to quickly check? Before buying an eSIM, simply check if an EID number is listed in Settings> General> Information . If so, your iPhone is compatible.
eSIM compatibility on Samsung Galaxy
Samsung introduced eSIM compatibility on its flagship devices, starting with the Samsung Galaxy S20 series in 2020.
Which Samsung smartphones support eSIM?
The eSIM is available on the brand’s main product ranges:
- Galaxy S series: S20, S21, S22, S23, S24 and newer models.
- Galaxy Note range: Starting with the Samsung Galaxy Note 20.
- Foldable devices: All Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip series.
⚠️ Regional specificities and operator blocks:
- eSIM support may vary depending on the world region and the mobile operator’s firmware.
- Some models purchased with a specific carrier subscription may have the eSIM blocked or disabled.
- In some regions (notably in the United States or Canada on certain models), the physical dual SIM versions do not include an eSIM chip.

eSIM compatibility on Google Pixel
Google Pixel devices are among the most reliable when it comes to supporting and managing eSIM cards.
Which Google Pixel models support eSIM?
Starting with the Google Pixel 3, almost all smartphones in the Pixel range natively support eSIM:
- Google Pixel 3 / 3a and 3 XL
- Google Pixel 4 / 4a
- Google Pixel 5
- Google Pixel 6, 7, 8, 9 and later versions
Some specific cases to be aware of:
- eSIM compatibility is generally enabled worldwide on Pixel smartphones.
- Some versions of Pixel sold exclusively by certain US or Asian mobile operators may be subject to limitations.
Search for your smartphone model in our search engine above. If your model is listed, your smartphone is eSIM compatible. Otherwise, another method is to dial *#06# on your keypad. If an EID (Embedded Identity Document) number appears next to your IMEI codes, your smartphone supports eSIM technology.
All iPhones released since the iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max (released in 2018) are eSIM compatible. Note that models purchased in mainland China or Hong Kong only have dual physical SIM cards and do not support eSIM.
The eSIM is supported by premium Android ranges, including the Samsung Galaxy S series from the S20 onwards, the Galaxy Z Fold/Flip ranges, and Google Pixel phones from the Pixel 3 onwards.
